Good afternoon, G. O.  Bailey parents and families, thank you so much for tuning in. We will be hosting our Title I meeting live through the internet. Unfortunately, we cannot have everyone in the building due to our current circumstances, but Mrs. Daughtrey, our Parent Coordinator, will be posting this meeting. At this time, I will turn it over to her.

Mrs. Lisa Daughtrey, Parent Engagement Coordinator:

Thank you, Mister Elizalde. It is wonderful to have you tune in with us today. I am Lisa Daughtrey, the parent engagement coordinator, and it is different because we are not live. We're not in person. We usually have a full lunchroom of parents and families and it's just a great time to be together. But, since we cannot do that we wanted to share this information with you today. It's very, very important. So, I will continue, and I want you to listen and know the reason why we are as great as we are at G. O. Bailey is because our parents and our students and our teachers are partners together and we do this by getting our, the input from our parents; and we just appreciate your involvement. So, let's begin! State of the School sounds a little political, there, but it's State of the School. Where do we stand?
Why are we doing this today? First off, I want to share a little bit about our enrollment in our school this year. As you can see, we are pretty balanced. Which is a great thing because we can plan; we know ahead how many students we have, and we can work with that. Many of our online learners have returned this second nine weeks and we are so happy for that. We are a clean, safe school. We're working hard every day to make sure that our children are getting a quality education but remaining safe as well. You'll see that also this gives a little bit more information about our ethnicity and our gender. We are very balanced with boys and girls. Which sometimes doesn't always happen. But, we are proud to have an equal balance. So, our School Goals… Let me explain to you just a minute about how we come up with our school goals. First off, as you remember, we send you parent surveys. Those surveys don't just get placed in a box and not looked at. They are very important because we want to know what our parents are thinking and what they want to see happen at our school. And, your input is very important because we develop our goals based on what our teachers see our needs and also what our parents are needs. So we work together as a team- a partnership. 
Our goals at G. O. Bailey this year, we have two goals. Writing is very important, of course, we always think reading is number one, and we are clearly working towards that District Goal of making sure that all our students are reading on level by third grade, on grade level by third grade. That is our District Goal. But also, we have our own G. O. Bailey goals, and writing is one of those things that we see is a need. That our children need to be able to put their thoughts on paper. That they can be critical thinkers, and that they can express themselves. So, we are working with our coach, who is Mrs. Reed. She is working with our teachers to develop activities to help our students write more. We also have math goals. We want to make sure that our students are developing in the math area, and Mrs. Thompkins does a great job as our Math Coach. To provide all the resources that our teachers need, and, our parents as well, to do Eureka Math. It is a little different! It's not like we used to do our math, but we are finding that our students are excelling with it. So, we are excited about that. The purpose of Title I is to ensure ALL children have a fair, equitable, and significant opportunity for a high-quality education and reaching, at minimum proficiency on rigorous standards and assessments. Well, that's a mouthful But, what it means is we want our, every single student in this building, to excel. We don't want anybody to fall through the cracks. So that is why at G.O. Bailey, we try to develop a plan for every single child. It's just not the children who might need a little extra help, but it's for every child because we want them all to excel. So we do a lot of documentation, and we collect data. We are a data-driven school. We look to see what grade level, what reading level our students are on, and then we go from there. And, develop a plan for each individual student. One thing you may not know that our school district, all schools are Title 1 Schools. And, it just means that they are eligible for Title I support. The "How" of Title I. Title I schools are provided additional funding to supplement the existing curriculum, parent involvement programs- which is what I do, and then professional development. So our funds are used in that way. To qualify they, there are several things that they have to qualify to be a Title I based school on [inaudible] come up with by poverty rate and then also our government assistance. But, every child in the school benefits from the extra funding that we receive. Regardless of the funding source, every teacher in the school-wide program is considered a Title I teacher. So the, the funds are distributed equally to all our teachers. It's not just one teacher or two teachers that get the funding. We all get it, and Dr. Dawson does an awesome job making sure that every grade level has what they need. If a grade level says they need a certain book or equipment, Dr. Dawson finds a way. Either through our Title I funding or through our Local School Governance Team- which we'll talk about a little bit later.
So, for Title I how are our funds used? Now, this is something, we sent out a budget letter earlier this year, and, I get, I ask for input from the parents how would you like our money to be spent? Well, one of the things I want to make sure that our parents know is that our Title I funds cannot be used just for anything. It'd be nice if we could buy things that, that maybe aren't so academic but would be helpful for the school. But, the state is very and federal government is very strict about how we use our funds. So, if we don't use it for something that you really think we should, it may be because we're not allowed to. But, one of the, the several things that we are able to do is to fund academic coaches. I've already mentioned them. We have one, Mrs. Reed in reading and writing and then Mrs. Thompkins who's in our, our math coach. Also, we have a contracted interventionist teacher who comes in and pulls students and works with them either in small groups or individually to help them catch up. Once again, we want every child to be able to read on grade level by third grade. So, this person is able to help us do that. Right now, it's Mrs. Anna Atwater. And, then my, my role- Parent Engagement Coordinator, is also paid with these funds. And, I'm, I am part time but I am available, and I tried to meet every need that the parent requests. And then we also have a translator. She's very important because we do have many Hispanic families. And they really want to be a part, but they may not be able to understand everything. So, our translator will, we translate every single piece of material, a flyer, or information that goes home, our monthly parent newsletter. Everything is translated so that our Hispanic parents can also feel a part. A few other things, we have a huge parent resource room, right now you can't come in. Obviously, but you can contact me and I can get up a packet for you to use at home with your student. You may not always have the level book that your child needs at home, but I can provide that for you and other resources. You just need to contact me. I have math and reading resources.
This is my information. You will see that I am a retired teacher. We were just talking about my 38 years, but I love what I do and I love working with children and with parents. So, I really enjoyed my job. And want you to use me. I am your advocate. I am here to help you as parents to bridge the gap between the school, the teacher, and you. So, always know that I'm available. So, our requirements for being a Title I School, the core subject area teachers must be highly qualified. You have a right to know as parents what the teacher, what the credentials of the teacher are.  Parents must be involved in the development plans for parent involvement and spending of Title I funds. That's why we do our surveys. That's why we get input from our parents. And, then we also have professional development that also helps our teachers be better prepared and be more qualified. Okay, still some others. We have to make sure that all funds are used to impact student achievement. And that is very important. And that we collect data. We do this all the time. It is so important, we are a data-driven school. Whatever the data shows, our weaknesses, and our strengths we use that to plan as we move forward. Okay, right to know, once again, as a Title I parent you may review your teacher's qualifications. Our paraprofessionals also have to have training. They have to go through modules where they learn about how to assist and their role as a paraprofessional in the classroom. You have the right to know if your teacher is not highly qualified, and then the state assessment results regarding achievement levels must be provided for every parent. 
So, parent engagement, as I mentioned, my salary and, is allotted through Title I, and, but we do have a great budget. One of the best things about Tift County is they believe in parent involvement. And, so, I'm proud to say in every single school in our district we have provided a Parent Engagement Coordinator. Not every district does that. In fact, I know a school, some districts they may have one for the entire district. So, we know that our leaders at, at Tift County believe in making sure parents are informed and involved.
So, our Parent Involvement Plan, I'm gone quickly tell you about how we go about planning for the new year. Once again, you do a survey in the spring, you do a survey in the fall, and we sit down and we go through every one of the forms that are sent back, the surveys that are sent back, and look at what our parents are requesting. And, then we get down and really get in the nitty-gritty. Now this year has been very different cause of Covid. And, so the things that we have done in the past, like Opportunity Day, some of the in-house parent activities, we've not been able to do. But, we are optimistic. We're hoping that in a, shortly that we'll be able to do that. And, so we're still planning 'cause we want our parents to be involved. And, as soon as y'all can, we're gonna allow you to come back in this building because you are important to us. 
The newest Parent involvement Plan here, it's called the PIP, and it's the blueprint. If you can, if you see it's pages and pages of planning, Okay? What we do, is we do a kind of a short version that's the Parent Compact. And we will be sending this home, we send it home every year. But, we'll send this home to you in your Thursday folder. And, it just plans out, in a nutshell, what we're gonna do for the year. Based on what you said, based on what our teachers say they need. And, it gives you a better idea. We have our goals in here. We also have a list of activities that we hope to do, and what you can do at home to help your student as well. Now, what I'm gonna ask, because you're not here in the building, to give feedback on this particular meeting. On this, the flyer that I send home in the Thursday folder, along with the Compact will be an evaluation form. We need every one of you to send that back. Now, great incentive, your child gets a dress down pass we know y'all all love. But, it's more about getting your feedback. That's really what we want to hear. Because starting tomorrow we'll start planning for the next year. So as you look at it, really be mindful that we are in a different type of setting this year with Covid. And, that things are going to be a little bit different, but we hope and pray that we will be able to get back to normal as soon as possible.
I mentioned the Parent Involvement Compact, and it is an agreement between the home and the school, and it says that we are all in this together. We are all one team! So, our final notes today will be that our, our meeting virtually, so in the Spring we hope that we can meet again, in person. That's what my prayers are. But, we will continue to work with our students. Know that you can contact me at any time. I am, you can e-mail me or call the school and I'll be happy to get a home resource packet for you or address any concerns that you may have. And, if you will know that if you don't get a Compact or if you'd like to look at the Parent Involvement Plan there'll be one in the school office that you can come by and pick up as well. Please be involved! I know it's hard when it's just where we're doing everything so virtually but our PTO is up and running and active. We've already done one fundraiser. We will be doing another fundraiser hopefully in the next couple of weeks, but just ask your teachers "What can I do to help you?" It may be just to send hand sanitizer or to just do something at home with your child that they've asked you to do. So, just be involved as much as you can and just know that we at G.O. Bailey, we are one family and we are G.O. Bailey Strong! And, we know that we're going to be able to help your child excel and be successful this year. Regardless of what the circumstances are.
